Movie Night - Tuesday 8th November - THE HELP!

Dear all

Last month's movie, "We need to talk about Kevin", was better than expected.  None of us were really looking forward to seeing it as it was a grim subject but in the end it was really well done and extremely thought provoking.  I wouldn't call it a thriller or sensational, more a serious drama on a very scary but real subject.  It held my attention from beginning to end and although incredibly sad I felt there was a glimmer of hope for the mother and son in the end or a small breakthrough.
On a lighter note, well I think it is, this month's movie is "THE HELP" showing in Fribourg.  Based on a number 1 selling book and so far good reviews of the movie. I think the FEWG book club may have read the book?

Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, Skeeter (Stone) is a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends' lives -- and a Mississippi town -- upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen (Davis), Skeeter's best friend's housekeeper, is the first to open up -- to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter's life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories -- and as it turns out, they have a lot to say. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges, but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly -- and unwillingly -- caught up in the changing times.

Considering the movie starts earlier this month at 8:00 pm I thought Saigon is usually quick, otherwise I would consider something different but most others seem to take longer. Saigon is also not far from cinema. Hope that is ok for you all.
