Movie Night - Tuesday 8th October - "Night Train to Lisbon"

posted Oct 1, 2013, 9:05 AM by Margaret Braun

Hello Movie friends

I hope you are all in the mood for movie watching now its getting a bit cooler.
Last month's movie was better than expected and most of us had a good laugh at "White House Down". It was over-the-top farcical action/comedy and most of us seemed to enjoy it. Wont win an Oscar but was fun.
Last weekend I saw the latest Woody Allen movie "Blue Jasmine" staring Cate Blanchett who was wonderful.  Although it was a laugh in places it was more serious but a good story.   I have no doubt there will be some women married to wealthy men who will see this and squirm in their seat.

This month I am proposing we meet at the Saigon as usual for dinner and go across to the Rex as there are two options. "Blue Jasmine" at 20:40 pm and the other is "Night Train to Lisbon" which is what I will be seeing at 20:30 .

I have read the book "Night train to Lisbon" by Pascal Mercier a Swiss writer. I have to say I found it a bit bizarre the book so I am fascinated to see it come to life in film. I think the FEW Group Book Club might have read this as well??.

"Night Train to Lisbon" starts off with very familiar scenes in Bern. Lots of scenes in Switzerland.  Stars Jeremy Irons and many other familiar faces.

"Night Train to Lisbon" storyline

About an aging Swiss professor of classical languages who, after a chance encounter with a Portuguese woman, quits his job and travels to Lisbon in the hope of discovering the fate of a certain author, a doctor and poet who fought against Portuguese dictator Antonio de Oliveira Salazar.

Restaurant: Saigon : 19:00 pm, Boulevard de Perolles 4, Fribourg

Film & Cinema: "Night Train to Lisbon" - Rex, across the road from the Restaurant

I hope you will join me for dinner and movie. Please let me know a) movie only or b) both dinner and movie.

Look forward to hearing form you.

Kind regards

Margaret Braun
